Aircraft Rental Checkout Flight

In order to rent our aircraft, our insurance requires a checkout flight with our Certified Flight Instructor. You will need to have on file: (1) Valid FAA Pilot Certificate, (2) Current FAA Medical or BasicMed, (3) Photo ID, (4) Renter’s Insurance, (5) Credit or Debit Card. You will review and sign our Renter’s Agreement. RENTERS INSURANCE IS REQUIRED, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Call to schedule a checkout flight with Ryan. Plan on blocking off a 2-hour block, this gives us time to complete paperwork, preflight, flight, post flight paperwork, including registration in Flight Schedule Pro.

RENTERS INSURANCE

Our insurance provides all Renters and Students with $100,000 of bodily injury liability insurance and no coverage for property or aircraft damage.  

Accordingly, Sky Chiefs Aviation, will require renters insurance for all student pilots and for all renting pilots, no exceptions.  Said insurance must have the following minimum coverage: 

Aircraft LiabilityMinimum of $250,000 and occurrence bodily injury and property damage limited to $25,000 each passenger.

Aircraft Physical Damage: Minimum of $5,000 each occurrence including deductible insurance of $5,000 each occurrence.  For those renters who wish to rent at night and do not have at least 10 solo hours of night flight time, have a night flight checkout, and you must have $30,000 in hull damage coverage.

Insurance can be purchased through a variety of brokers: AOPA Assured, SkyWatch AI, AVEMCO, and is relatively inexpensive. SkyWatch AI, offers daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly policies. You will be responsible for ensuring that we have a current copy of your policy.

WEATHER MINIMUMS

Special VFR will be permitted only to avoid a more hazardous situation and is approved by Sky Chiefs Aviation.  Cross-country flights will not be permitted beyond 250 nautical miles from point of origin unless Renter is Instrument Rated and current for IFR, unless prior arrangements have been made with a Sky Chiefs’ Aviation Instructor.  You are to exercise sound aeronautical decision-making (ADM) skills and plan appropriately when making the go/no-go decision.  

For your safety, and the safe operation of our aircraft, you must plan to operate our aircraft only when the present and forecasted weather indicates VFR conditions local and en-route (ceilings of at least 2,500 feet and visibility of 5 miles or greater) unless renter is Instrument Rated and current for IFR. Any exceptions must be approved on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of the flight instructor, for pattern work. For traffic pattern, a minimum ceiling of 2,000 feet and at least 5 SM of visibility, unless you’re instrument rated and current for IFR.
