PRIVATE PILOT

Private Pilot Certificate

Your training will be conducted in accordance with Part 61.  We pride ourselves on having an extremely in-depth, industry leading syllabus.  From the beginning, an emphasis is placed on safety, situational awareness, and good aeronautical decision-making.  As part of your training for your private pilot certificate, you will receive ground training (mini lectures) and flight training.  There are a number of requirements to earn your private pilot certificate.  The final step will be taking the FAA practical test administered by a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).  You will be well prepared for your written and practical examinations by your CFI and training materials.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Obtain at least a FAA Third Class Medical Certificate conducted by an FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). Your CFI will provide you with a list of the local AME’s in the area. We strongly recommend that you start the process of obtaining your medical either before or immediately after the start of your training.  This will be REQUIRED before you can solo or take your FAA practical exam.

Obtain a Student Pilot Certificate. This will be issued by your CFI using the IACRA system.  You will need to bring supporting documentation of U.S. citizenship when applying for the Student Pilot Certificate:

    1. Driver’s License or photo ID, and:
    2. Unexpired U.S. Passport, or,
    3. U.S. birth certificate

Speak, write, and understand English. This is REQUIRED by the FAA.

Pass FAA pilot knowledge test, which consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and is administered at an FAA-designated computer testing center.

FLIGHT TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Undertake flight and ground training as outlined by Part 61 regulations required the following minimum aeronautical experience to be eligible to take the practical examination for the issuance of a private pilot certificate:

Must log at least 40 hours of flight time that includes at least 20 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor and 10 hours of solo flight training that must include various cross-country, night flights, and minimum takeoff and landing requirements.  Finally, you must pass FAA Practical Exam consisting of an oral and flight portion.

PROFICIENCY

Please keep in mind that Part 61 of the Federal Aviation Regulations indicate the minimum qualifications needing to be met.  You may require additional training hours in order to achieve the requisite flight proficiency and aeronautical knowledge needed in order to pass the FAA written and practical examinations in accordance with the Airmen Certification Standards (ACS) for the private pilot.  The CFI has the sole discretion to determine if you have met the proficiency requirement.

The flight estimated flight costs outlined below are  based on the national average hours (about 50 – 60 hrs) a student pilot typically takes to complete training.  Additional or fewer hours may be necessary to complete training, this is contingent upon how well the student grasps concepts and becomes proficient to take the FAA Written and FAA Practical Tests.
